Doha hosts Islamic Business Women Forum
Under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Misnad,
consort of the Emir of Qatar, and in joint cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce,
the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Qatari Business Women Forum, the Qatar Businessmen
Association organizes in the period between 13-15 November 2007 the Third Business
Women in the Islamic World Forum.
The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry comprises 5.4 million business people, belonging
to more than 500 chambers of commerce and industry. The meeting will be an excellent opportunity
for business women and personalities, representing 57 Islamic countries, to meet and review
issues of mutual interest.
The forum will act as a platform for linking business women in the Islamic world and
establishing a large communication network to serve their business, in addition to
encouraging more activities by women in the Islamic Chamber's affiliates and organs.
Individual experiences and success stories will be shared during the meeting in
order to benefit all participants. Mechanisms for the creation of a comprehensive
information network, training programmes and providing technical assistance to
business women will be reviewed. Encouraging the latter to engage in setting up
SME's and launching their own projects will also be part of the forum's agenda
.
The forum will also review the role of local business women associations in
promoting women's participation in building their social and economic environment.
In addition, the best world practices in decision making for business women will
be part of the discussions, as well as the role of capital providers in encouraging
business women to pursue their goals and develop their own projects.
Aisha Al Fardan, Vice-President of Qatar Business Women Forum said the intensive
attendance of Business people is a great gain by itself; hence they can exchange
experiences through a gathering of such kind.
In the beginning the Qatari business women activities were limited to fashions,
cosmetics, and other simple commercial professions, but now they work in all sectors
including automobiles, jewelries, and real estate, they also work in all kind of
governmental institutions and ministries, she added.
She said the biggest challenge the Qatari woman is facing is how to change
the outlook of society towards women and the men's refusal to work under women
in the workplaces. The Qatari woman now enjoys more participation in the social
system and in the coming years she will be equal to the man and works side by side
to the man.
