Qatar Embassy in Berlin Celebrates the National Day

 The Embassy of the State of Qatar to The Federal Republic Of Germany hosted on the 14th of December 2007 a reception party in the lobby of Deutsche Bank in Berlin, marking the National day on the 18th of December every year, which is the day Sheikh Jassem bin Mohammed Al Thani, founder of the modern State of Qatar, assumed the rule of his country. His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed Saleh Al Nesef and First Secretary Mr Abdulla Ibrahim Noor Al Emadi and Head of Medical department in Bonn Mr Faisal Saleh Al Mansoori and the Embassy staff received the guests from the diplomatic corps accredited to FRG and from the sectors of politics, economy, and media. Also representatives of Arab and Moslem communities in the FRG.

Ambassador Al Nesef surprised his guests with astonishing present namely the presence of two Qatari women painters Hessa Ahmed Al Muftah and Hanadi Ahmed Al Darweesh who flew for this occasion from Qatar to show a selected collection of their paintings which was highly welcomed by the reception party guests.

The celebration this year is the first memorization of that in modern history of Qatar. It symbolizes a solid attachment to the roots of the Qatari peoples quest for modernity and progress, which have today reached a paramount level under the wise directives of His Highness the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and H H the Heir Apparent Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad.More...

IMF commends Qatar's economic policy

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) said the State of Qatar had a bright economic outlook due to high oil prices but is at risk from inflation, and one way to contain this pressure would be to loosen the peg between the riyal and dollar.

IMF's regular review of Qatar’s economy specified that its dollar peg had served it well so far, however it was time to consider other options.

Qatar calls for boosting South-South cooperation

The United Nations General Assembly Resolution 58/220 represents a recognition by the General Assembly of the importance of strengthening South-South cooperation because of its effective impact on the economic and social development process in the countries of the South, and represents a direct contribution to achieving the Millennium Development Goals, including the goal of halving poverty by the year 2015.

Inaugurating the opening activities marking the United Nations Day for South-South H E Ambassador Nasser bin Abdul-Aziz Al-Nasr, Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations, in his capacity as Chairman of the High-Level Committee for South-South Cooperation said on Wednesday 19 December 2007 that South-South cooperation is increasingly growing in importance, thus making the countries of the South qualified, thanks to their economic weight, to be an active partner in the global economic system.

Doha hosts Islamic Business Women Forum

Under the auspices of Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al-Misnad, consort of the Emir of Qatar, and in joint cooperation with the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Qatari Business Women Forum, the Qatar Businessmen Association organizes in the period between 13-15 November 2007 the Third Business Women in the Islamic World Forum.

The Islamic Chamber of Commerce and Industry comprises 5.4 million business people, belonging to more than 500 chambers of commerce and industry.

QAPCO launches $220 mln ethylene expansion project

Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) will officially launch its Ethylene Expansion Project (EP2) on January 8, 2007 at the Messaieed Industrial City. The project was completed in July this year increasing the company's ethylene production by around 200 kilotonnes (KT) per year with the surplus amount shipped to global markets.

QAPCO's current annual ethylene production stands at 720 KT and has the potential to export about 120 TO 140 KT per year.
